Choir students at Fairfax High School develop so much more than singing. In this ever-busy, stressful world of high school, choir students find a place of relaxation and joy in the choir room, daily. They can leave their outside stresses at the door, and focus instead on creating beauty and art through music. During each rehearsal students learn team work and collaboration skills, while exploring music from other periods in history, and other cultures in the world. They develop appreciation for the effort required to work toward, and achieve goals in life. And they are asked often to push the boundaries of their own comfortable and safe bubbles. These skills, in addition to the daily challenging musicianship work, are abilities that will last them a lifetime in any career or future endeavor.
Open to all singers, regardless of previous experience and skills. This choir focuses on building a team of singers, and increasing intermediate musicianship skills to prepare students for a lifetime of singing.
Fairfax High's select men's ensemble, Choro Basso performs advanced level repertoire in many languages and styles. Singer's musicianship and vocal skills are challenged daily, and they perform throughout the year in the school and community.
Bel Canto is the select treble ensemble at Fairfax. A Cappella is the most advanced choir at FHS. Students are expected to be excellent sight readers and musicians, and possess a willingness to challenge themselves, working above and beyond in each rehearsal. Each student must also be willing to sing a wide variety of lanuguages and styles, branching out far beyond "classical" choral sound.
